Celebrating 140 years
Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Happy Founding Day!
On this day, the 4th of October, we are celebrating 140 years ever since the first Company was started in Glasgow, Scotland. On 4th October 1883, the first Company was started and the Brigade has since grown to a big family with members in many countries all over the world. As we join the rest of the world to celebrate the vision of Sir. William Alexander Smith, May we reflect on the work of BGBU among the young people and provide them with the opportunities to learn, grow and discover in a safe, fun and caring environment which is rooted in the Christian Faith.
It is also a special month for our nation as we get to celebrate the 61st anniversary of our country’s Independence. 9th October has always been a source of pride for many Ugandans since gaining independence in 1962. This year’s celebrations will be held in Kitgum District in a ceremony which will be graced by the President under the theme “Sustaining a united and Progressive Nation: Taking Charge of our Future as a Free Nation.” Happy Independence in advance to all Officers and Members.
Special thanks to all the Officers and Members that have participated in various activities last month. We appreciate the great work that is going on in all the Dioceses. May God bless you.
Looking forward to a fruitful month of October.

National Secretary
Boys’ and Girls’ Brigade of Uganda.
